BookerMarks is here!

July 19, 2012

BookerMarks has officially arrived! That means that it’s probably high time that we formally explain this new undertaking and introduce all of the contributing bloggers.

What is BookerMarks?

http://bookermarks.wordpress.com

It’s a collaborative undertaking spearheaded by seven independent bloggers to shadow this year’s Man Booker award proceedings from the unveiling of the long list in July all the way through to the announcement of the winning selection in October.

How does BookerMarks work?

When the long list of twelve novels is announced on July 25th each blogger will select three titles that they are responsible for reading by the time the shortlist is announced on September 11th.  They are then free to read any additional titles on the long list once their initial selections have been completed.  For each selection read they will provide a formal review as well as a ranking on a scale of 1-5 (half numbers are allowed).  These scores will be averaged and the six titles with the highest ranking will become our predicted short list.  A leaderboard will be maintained on a daily basis so that visitors can quickly see which titles we believe to be most worthy of short list consideration.

Each blogger will be responsible for reading ALL of the titles on the official short list when it is announced on September 11th.  For each selection read they will provide a formal review as well as a ranking on a scale of 1-5 (half numbers are allowed).  These scores will be averaged and the title with the highest ranking will become our predicted prize winner.  During the short list period we’ll attempt to make things more interactive with group discussions on each of the finalists, opinion polls for our viewers, and more.

In addition, along the way we’ll be providing news, opinions, and discussion around all things Man Booker both past and present, including reviews of some past contenders that we liked as well as some that we did not.
